on the Bay is situated approximately eight miles east of Toledo along Lake Erie. Having close access to the one of the Great Lakes makes the city perfect for boating and other water-related entertainment. Oregon is home to around 20,000 residents.
The Port of Toledo, which controls port and shipping for two dominant oil refineries, designates Oregon as the "City of Opportunity". The school system has been rated "effective" by the State of Ohio and includes three elementary schools, two middle schools, one public high school and also one Catholic high school. Oregon is also a part of the Challenger Learning Center, which was founded in 1986 after the tragic Challenger accident. The Learning Center encourages students from surrounding areas to be a part of this unique science, math and technology learning program. This organization perfectly suits students interested in pursuing science and math-related careers.
Oregon has proudly hosted The German-American Festival at Oak Shade Grove since 1966. The Festival is attended every August by people with various ethnic backgrounds. The German-American Festival society hopes to provide a better perception of German and Swiss Culture. The event includes three days of fun with authentic German and Swiss edibles, dancing, music, contests and more.
There are two hospitals in Oregon located close to most residents. St. Charles Mercy Hospital has 386 beds and offers many areas of specialization due to its modern facility. Newer to the community is Bay Park Hospital. This medical facility offers 70 beds and very advanced technology and equipment.
