      The proud city of Toledo , OH covers an area of 84 square miles bordering Michigan to the north and Lake Erie to the east. Making the city the fourth largest in Ohio and the 57 th largest in the United States , Toledo ´s population was 313,619 in 2000 and still continues to flourish.

      The Toledo Express Airport conveniently and affordably offers service for travelers across the country and is one of the busiest cargo airports in the nation. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority offers cargo facilities for ships passing through the Port of Toledo (at the mouth of the Maumee River) and is recognized as one of the Great Lakes ´ most diversified international cargo facilities.       Not only is Toledo an important port on the Great Lakes, it is at the crossroads of America with major East-West and North-South highways, major rail yards and trucking facilities. It has been commented that our area has more boats per capita then Florida.       As a result of the popular TV show, Mash , one of Toledo's most popular and fun-filled eateries, Tony Packo's , gained fame and well-deserved recognition. It offers the Hungarian hot dog among its many delicious specialties.

      The Toledo Public School District is the predominant school system in Toledo and the fourth largest in the state of Ohio . Serving close to 37,000 students, Toledo has 61 elementary, junior high and senior high schools. The well-respected University of Toledo is known for its exceptional business program, diverse curriculum and excellence throughout. It has eight colleges offering undergraduate and graduate programs to over 20,000 students. The University recently underwent a merger with The Medical College of Ohio now making it the Medical University of Ohio . MUO is a state medical and health science center which provides four specialized schools and three teaching hospitals for quality education.

      Toledo is home to four major acute care hospitals: The Toledo Hospital (705 beds); St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center (580 beds); Medical College and Hospitals of Ohio (319 beds); and St. Anne Mercy Hospital (80 beds).

      A wide array of recreational and cultural activities is available to Toledo ´s residents. The honorable Toledo Museum of Art is a privately endowed, nonprofit association noted for its beautiful permanent and traveling art displays and also for its art education programs available. After the 100 th anniversary of the Museum in 2001, a complete renovation and restoration was finished along with a gorgeous new sculpture garden. In 2006 the Glass Pavilion was opened at the museum honoring Toledo as "The Glass City".

      The prestigious 108-year-old Valentine Theatre offers theatrical, musical and dance productions throughout the year. This 901-seat facility with state-of-the art sound and lighting systems underwent a $28 million renovation in 1999. The theatre is home to The Toledo Symphony and the Toledo Ballet.

      The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and its 18 branches throughout Lucas County provide the third largest library collection in the State with over 2 million books.

      The Toledo Zoo is known as one of the most expansive and complete zoological institutions in the United States . The zoo is owned and operated by the Toledo Zoological Society which continues improving and preserving its many exhibits and its wide variety of animals. Not just a zoo, the facility also offers concerts and elegant adult gatherings.

      Toledo owns and maintains 144 parks in the area. Metroparks of the Toledo Area conserves 8,000 acres of natural and historical parklands. There are 11 scenic parks and two recreational trails open to the public. Along Lake Erie and the Maumee River, sailing, fishing and boating are very common interests to Toledo residents and visitors. Thanks to supporting members, dollars have been recently committed to:

      * The replacement of damaged and unsafe bridges at Oak Openings
      * Recycling cans for locations throughout the Metroparks
      * Native garden beds at Secor Metropark

      * Additional program grants, and much more

      Toledo ´s Class AAA professional baseball team, the Toledo Mud Hens , is affiliated with the Detroit Tigers and loved by many fans. In 2002 the Fifth Third Field was built with 10,000 seats available in the Downtown Toledo Warehouse District. The Stadium offers the perfect ballpark setting for a fun-filled afternoon.


      The Toledo Walleye Hockey Team began to play at the new Lucas County Arena in October 2009.  Attending these games has become a popular event for Toledoans.
